Moving to a new home requires getting everything organised which can put you under a very stressful position. You can ease your moving process with Cleanzy’s professional removals service. However, there is still much to think about. Do not forget about the other members of your family. It can be a challenging and disorienting experience when you move with your pet.
As you will be thinking about your pet’s well-being while you are moving, you can get extra stressed. To eliminate or at least reduce the stress, there are several things you can do:
BEFORE MOVING
-Register with a new pet before you move, if you are moving further away. That way you can save some time.
-For your pet to avoid confusion, try sticking with your pet’s routine when you move like the regular feeding or walking times.
-As your pet will need a bit more attention with the distress, ask one of your family members to take care of the pet and be in charge of their welfare if possible.
-In case your pet goes missing make sure to get a collar and engrave your details as well as your pet’s. Also do not forget to update pet passports, insurance or ID details.
-If your pet has a favourite room where they spend the most time, try to pack that room last so your pet can enjoy more time without moving stress.
-Make sure to tell your removals company upfront that you are going to move with your pet especially if you have an exotic pet like snakes.
Each pet deserves special attention during moving to a new house. Our separate recommendations can be helpful for pet owners who want to smoothen the moving process.
MOVING HOUSE WITH A DOG
Your most loyal friend can sense any change and any stressful mood swings you have. Thus, it is important to remain calm while you are moving house with a dog. Try to stick with your dog’s daily routine and give as much attention to them as you can. However, you can also ask a friend or family member or a home boarding service to take care of your dog until you move.
If you prefer to keep your dog present, make sure your dog gets used to moving supplies like moving boxes before moving. It would be better for their mental health to learn that these supplies are positive or at least neutral things. Hence, they can avoid the anxiety that meeting these supplies during moving day can generate.
If you are moving away, you can take your dog for a walk in the new neighbourhood to make them more comfortable and acclimated.
On the moving day try to make the journey the same as when you travel with your dog. Make sure they are fed before leaving. You can keep them in a cage until you settle down to the new place or you can trust someone to take care of them until the moving day is over.
MOVING HOUSE WITH A CAT
Even though it is similar to moving home with dogs, moving home with a cat can be trickier as cats connect with their dwelling place more than dogs and can get more anxious with the change. You can always ask for help and assign someone you trust to take care of your cat, if you are afraid that the chaos of the moving can traumatise your cat.
If you will keep your cat present, make sure to keep their routine of feeding, playing hours. If your cat is prone to anxiety, ask your vet for calming pills or sprays and use it on the moving day.
Make sure the transportation with your cat is safe and secure with a cat carrier. To avoid them to travel sick, do not feed them less than two or three hours before the transportation. You can put a towel inside the carrier and keep talking with them while in the car to lessen the stress.
As the cats are territorial animals, once you get to your new home and let them free it would be better to keep a close eye on them. You can put your cat on a closed room for the first day to relax and avoid losing them as they would hide somewhere you would never think of. Keep your cat indoors until they are comfortable and gradually settle to their new home. When your cat is ready to explore the outside territory, do not forget to put a collar with your information on them in case they go missing.
MOVING HOUSE WITH A FISH
The moving process with a fish might be easier than you think. Make sure you change the water and keep it clean for the moving day. Do not feed them the day before the move to keep the water clean in the container.
On the moving day, you can move your fish in a secured plastic bag if you have small fish. For larger fishes you can carry them with larger buckets with nearly 80% of the water from their tanks. Do not forget to include any plants from the tank inside the bucket.
Set up the tank once you have arrived at your new home checking the temperature, PH balance, ammonia level and so on. For longer moves set up the tank from the scratch. After the tank is ready, reintroduce your fish to the tank keeping the lights down.
MOVING HOUSE WITH A RABBIT
With a safe carry case and a temperature below 23°C as they are prone to heat stroke, moving house with a rabbit is also relatively easier. As rabbits cannot anticipate motions and sudden acceleration or stops can make them anxious while in the car.
When you arrive at your new home, make a room rabbit-safe and keep them there until you settle down. Introduce your rabbit gradually to the house, by room by room until they get comfortable.
MOVING HOUSE WITH AN EXOTIC ANIMAL
Moving with an exotic animal is not very different from regular pets after you check with your state wildlife management and get any required permit to move with them.
Do not forget to inform and check with your removals company about your pet so that they can get any special equipment needed to carry them or give you recommendations.
Each animal requires specific attention while moving. Thus, know your pets’ special needs and act accordingly.
-Moving with reptiles: As they cannot regulate their temperature make sure the temperature is safe for them during transportation.
-Moving with Birds: As they get uncomfortable when their living space is disturbed, get a cage to transport them.
-Moving with Spiders: Smaller and well-sealed container is needed to relocate your favourite spider.
